Hoffman Center for the Arts Gallery Show

The Hoffman Center for the Arts Gallery in Manzanita presents works by Christa Grimm, Dennis Worrel, and Chuck Winkleman.

Christa’s new work, Covid Spring, is a series of Plein Air snapshots-in-time painted during the Covid lockdown of local vistas in her coastal community where she could social distance and still capture the everyday moments to notice, make note of, and cherish. Painting the series was a way she could take stock, slow down and appreciate what is right there to be appreciated. Just looking at them provides an invitation and an opportunity to slow down.

This show will be up from Oct 29-Nov 30 and the gallery will be open Fri-Sun 1-4pm. (All CDC guidelines will be followed so bring your mask). We hope you can come and enjoy it!

Christa will be at the Gallery to visit with you on Saturday, Nov 14th and Nov 21st from 2-4pm.

ARTIST’S STATEMENT
I started this series on the first day of spring break when our small towns were filling with travelers. I was surprised and worried about the throngs of people, and I was having a hard time finding a spacious socially-distanced view to paint. So I would go out each morning, fishing for the perfect view: for the quiet beauty that is so often overlooked or missed. Covid has slowed down our lives,  and my hope is that it has helped us in our simple quest for calmness and inspiration.

I have thoroughly enjoyed painting these small acrylics on wood . It’s been both a difficult and a beautiful spring and summer, and this series offer tiny little snapshots of the beauty that surrounds when we can slow down enough to look and notice, as we continue in this year of covid.

Currently living at the Oregon Coast, Grimm’ s paintings highlight and enshrine the beauty and majesty of our costal environment. Her passion is color: attracted to the pursuit of the perfect pallet and the nuances that convey the weather and moods of an environment. It’s an intimacy, a craving, a love affair with the landscape of these Bays and Headlands that holds her captive.
